Ehukai Beach, Hawaii- In perfect six to eight foot Banzai Pipeline, Kauai local Bruce Irons finally pulled off a big win, surfing flawlessly and on a level above the rest. From the get go, Irons kept pulling into big deep Backdoor Pipeline tubes scoring 7.0 - 9.5 rides and from the middle of his quarter-final heat, he seemed unbeatable.

In his semi heat, he caught ten waves and scored eight rides above 8.0 and in the finals, averaged 9.9 by all judges on best three scores. Following behind in the finals was Myles Padaca from Sunset Beach, third David Cantrell also from the North Shore and rounding out the field, Strider Wasilewski from California.
